Tips for Choosing a Contractor

IMPORTANT NOTICE!

THE STATE OF OKLAHOMA REQUIRES NO LICENSING

FOR ROOFING CONTRACTORS!

Make Sure Your Hiring A Professional!

    1. Is the contractor insured with Oklahoma Worker’s Compensation?

Some independent contractors may try and fool you.  Call the state Worker’s Comp Court at (405) 522-8680 to verify coverage.  This service can be used for any type of contractor you may be wishing to hire.

    2. Is the contractor insured with General Liability Insurance?

Make sure you verify by calling the agent or carrier.  If a roofing crew damages your property, you will want to be assured that any and all damages will be taken care of by the contractors insurance.

    3. Roofing Distributor References

Ask your contractor to provide names and phone numbers of his suppliers.  Any legitimate contractor will be happy to provide this type of information, and this can be a great reference source for you as well.  If the distributor’s material bill is not paid, the distributor can register a lien against your home for payment of roofing materials.

    4. Manufacturer Certifications

Good contractors will typically be certified by one or more manufacturers.  It’s in the manufacturer’s best interest to know who is installing their products, so don’t hesitate to ask about any contractor you may be considering.  The following is a list of manufacturers NichTech Roof Systems recommends and works with closely.

    5. No Roof Loading

Roof loading adds tremendous weight to your roof framing structure, and may jeopardize the structural integrity of your home.  This process may lower labor costs but it’s an unnecessary risk? Be sure and ask your contractor where they intend to store your material when it arrives.

    6. Pre-Payment of Work

This is a sticky subject for some.  In most cases, no payment should be required until the roof is substantially complete! However, if the cost of your project is more than $25,000 dollars, expect to be asked for money to help cover material cost.  We choose to be a small business so that we can provide you with the very best service, and as a small business we must maintain operating capital to pay labor crews and material bills.  If you are asked for money at the start of the project to help pay for materials, we will provide a receipt and a waiver of lien from our material supplier for your protection.

    7. The Production Phase

Remember, there are no licensing requirements for Roofing Contractors in the state of Oklahoma, and this is the most critical part of your roofing project. In Oklahoma, Roofing Contractors use sub-contractors to install roofs.  Many Roofing Contractors simply hand their sub-contractor a work order and turn them loose on your property.  At NichTech Roof Systems, we manage every aspect of the production phase of your project from start to finish, and we believe that an open line of communication is the best policy.  We complete a pre-job inspection at your property with our sub-contractor. Once the project begins, we manage the installation to ensure proper application, and when the sub-contractor is finished, we do a final inspection that concludes with an HVAC Inspection in your attic.  We do this to ensure you get the high quality roof system you expect, and during the entire process, you will have an open line of communication with your salesman and the owner of Nichtech Roof Systems as he personally oversees every project.  At Nichtech Roof Systems, 100% Customer Satisfaction is our Goal and we achieve that by providing personal, individualized attention to each customer.

There are four (4) critical components of all roof systems that require a trained expert to manage during the production phase!

  • Proper Fastening!  One of the most critical components to Long Term Performance of your roof is the fastener.  The type of fastener used is dependent on the type of shingle and the deck; location, frequency, and length are critical.  Uplift forces from wind can cause your new roof system to fail if it’s not properly fastened, and the manufacturer will not cover wind damages if the roof is not attached properly.

Never Allow Staples!  Nailing is Still the Best Method!

  • Adequate Flashings – Manufacturers’ specifications require all metal flashings to be replaced if found to be in poor condition.  Many contractors neglect or completely skip the flashings resulting in a sub-standard roof system.  NichTech Roof Systems will inspect and replace all metal roof flashings as required by manufacturer’s specifications.

  • Proper Ventilation – Roof system specifications require adequate ventilation for your warranty to be valid.  A properly vented roof system insures constant air flow through your attic system which helps your roof system provide years of service to your home.  NichTech Roof Systems will do a ventilation calculation and provide you with all possible options.

  • Manufacturer Specifications – The manufacturers’ installation specifications must be followed for your roof system to perform as designed and advertised.  NichTech Roof System is among the most qualified Roofing Contractors in Oklahoma.  Having taught over 15,000 students across America in roofing technologies and proper application techniques, the owner of Nichtech Roof Systems is uniquely qualified to oversee every project.
